While the statistics that are bandied about seem to reflect the idea that it's safer at 55, the same statistics, when CORRECTLY presented in the rate per person-hours, or per person-mile, show that 55 mph didn't save anything at all, it just (along with a gas shortage) discouraged a lot of people from driving.
