[comp.text.tex] French dictionary for Unix spell or ispell?

mike@ists.ists.ca (Mike Clarkson) (12/08/90)

Does anyone know where there is a French dictionary for either Unix
spell or ispell? Ideally, it would be in a form supports a representation
of accents that work with TeX.

Many thanks in advance,

Mike.

Such a tool exists and is available from a ftp site in France. It has been
written by Paul Zimmermann (zimmermann@inria.inria.fr) and is named "epelle"
(spell in French). It is available for ftp from inria.inria.fr [128.93.8.1]
in file "~/pub/ics.uci.edu/epelle.tar.Z".

Epelle is built on top of the Unix spell system, and allows for both TeX
and troff-style accent marks. The dictionary can be used by "look" too.

If there is an interest for it in the US, it would be really nice to have
a ftp site here.

Salut,
Christophe.

Many thanks to all who reponded. The program that handles french, with
accents in troff or TeX style is called epelle, and is available by anon
ftp from rpi.edu or inria.inria.fr.

It works perfectly.

Many thanks to Yves Lesperance <lesperan@ai.toronto.edu>.
