<> There was a question raised regarding the value of these locators. For sailors there is a device, commercially available, which when immersed in sea water, sends SOS on the channel which commercial airlines monitor. This is supposed to provide a means of finding people whose boats have gotten in trouble far out at sea. Not too many people have been rescued by means of these devices, which won't be discussed here, but the possibilities of O'Neills device here are optimistic. A previous article discussed, one of the uses O'Neill plans for the device which is an SOS button on the local box which would inform the authorities of the location of the person in trouble. A fairly simple modification of the device to make it similar to the one described for boaters would make a device which should provide a better rescue mechanism than the other one.
