[comp.text.tex] Welcome to INFO-TeX

bed_gdg@SHSU.BITNET (George D. Greenwade) (12/20/90)

                         Welcome to INFO-TeX!!
                         ---------------------
Your address has been added to the mailing list for INFO-TeX. As list
owner, I would like to welcome you.

The concept behind INFO-TeX is straightforward -- INFO-TeX provides a
network forum where issues, questions, comments, ideas, and uses of
Donald Knuth's TeX document processing system can be discussed.
Certainly, this includes the more popular derivatives of TeX -- LaTeX and
AMSTeX -- as well as any other enhancement or extension related to any of
these systems, such as METAFONT, BibTeX, Tib, and others.

INFO-TeX is presently set up as a world-access list which also archives
postings to it. Anyone can SUBSCRIBE, REVIEW the list of subscribers,
post messages to the list, and access the INFO-TeX archives.

  ***************************IMPORTANT NOTICE****************************
  * In the automatically-generated mail accompanying your subscription, *
  * you were provided with the address INFO-TeX-Request@SHSU.BITNET for *
  * administrative messages, such as REVIEW and SIGNOFF. While this is *
  * a valid address, we ask that you DO NOT use this address; instead, *
  * please address these messages to: *
  *                         LISTSERV@SHSU.BITNET                        *
  ***********************************************************************
-->Note: as of December 5, 1990, INFO-TeX subscription requests are tested
for address consistency by the list owner prior to being added as a
subscriber in an effort to minimize mailer errors. Only subscribers can
post to INFO-TeX at present, but all other functions remain world access.
This will change in the near future to full world access.

Please note that INFO-TeX is configured to REPLY or ANSWER to the original
sender and not to INFO-TeX. This configuration should reduce the amount of
unintended private replies to messages back across the list of subscribers.
Also, it forces those posting messages to know that they are posting to a
network list.

In some cases, public replies are desired when answering questions. It
would be appreciated if you would post back to INFO-TeX (using the
necessary "send copy to" command on your system) those replies which are
general in nature and which the entire list might benefit from.

The archives of INFO-TeX are maintained by FILESERV@SHSU.BITNET. FILESERV
handles the basic MAIL-environment server commands. It supports multiple
commands within a MAIL message, so long as each command resides on a
unique line. For a brief help list on FILESERV, send a MAIL message to
FILESERV@SHSU.BITNET with the word HELP in the body of the message.

INFO-TeX archives are maintained under the filename INFO-TeX.yyyy-mm, where
"yyyy" represents the year and "mm" represents the month numerically
(January=01, February=02,...). To access the archives for December, 1990,
for example, include the command:
SENDME INFO-TeX.1990-12
in your MAIL message to FILESERV@SHSU.BITNET.

If you have any questions or comments about this list, or need
assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
