You will need the guide to use LaTeX anyway, so you may as well buy it now. Nope. Appendix A describes SliTeX. Appendix B describes the bibliography database files, usually `something.bib files', but this is not what the original poster requested. The most complete description of BibTeX that I know of is the BibTeXing paper that comes with the BibTeX source distribution. Sections 1-4 describe BibTeX for users (this information is mostly contained in Appendix B of the LaTeX book). Section 5 describes the format of the bibliography style files. You should be able to find the source for this paper in the BibTeX distribution at a TeX archive site near you, say labrea.stanford.edu, or sun.soe.clarkson.edu, or ... -- John Eaton jwe@che.utexas.edu Department of Chemical Engineering The University of Texas at Austin
