[comp.text.tex] Can LaTeX Vertically Span Entries in Tabular Environment?

picano@en.ecn.purdue.edu (Silvio Picano) (01/23/91)

Is it possible (i.e., easy for us beginners) to make
an entry in a 'tabular environment' vertically span
several rows?

For example: I want a number (e.g., 144) to
vertically span 2 rows in this table:

	--------------------------------------------------
	row 1 12 13 144 10 10 etc.
	row 2 12 11 9 8 etc.
	--------------------------------------------------

Lamport's book does not mention vertical spanning.
Since tbl/troff can do it, I assume (hope) LaTeX can??

Thanks
Silvio

Try \multicolumn in LaTeX
