[comp.text.tex] Printing on an Epson EX-1000

kid@hpctdkg.HP.COM (Kevin Dietz) (01/25/91)

The other day I ftp'd SBTEX 3.0 from vax.eedsp.gatech.edu
(130.207.226.2), along with the dvi drivers and CM fonts. I used
the dvieps dvi driver to get output for an Epson. But when I printed
the .eps file to my Epson EX-1000, it printed everything so tiny. The
document was just the SB30.DOC file provided with SBTEX, and I think
it used a standard 10pt font, so it shouldn't have printed out that
small. Also DVIMAN.LTX and CANON.LTX did the same thing.

Has anybody had this problem or know what to do about it. Is
there a different driver for the EX-1000? Anything special I have to
do with magnifications? (BTW, I used -m603, which according to DVIMAN
is supposed to be the right magnification for low-resolution dot-matrix
printers. The only problem this caused was font mag 660 was not available,
so it used mag 603 instead. If this is the problem, where do I get the
mag 660 fonts?)

Also, I had lots of memory problems using DVIEPS. I had to remove all
my TSR's (cpanel, mouse, a command-line retriever, and himem.sys) to get
it to work. This is kind of a hassle. Does anyone have a driver that
works better, like one that's been compiled with a 386 compiler and a
DOS extender? I have TC++, so I might try to compile the source using
VROOM to overlay some sections of the code. Has anybody tried that?

Any help is appreciated. Use E-mail. Thanks.
