[comp.text.tex] DeskWriter compatability

chet@Advansoft.COM (Chet Wood) (02/08/91)

I've borrowed an Apollo DN3000 from work and have been playing around
with TeX. When I want to print, I download the dvi file to my Mac Plus
and use the OzTeX DVI driver (DVI72M) to print to the Imagewriter II.
It works great, and looks better than the Mac's own imagewriter fonts.
The only problem is it's a bit slow. But maybe not any slower than
ordinary Mac "Best" printing.

My wife has been bugging me to upgrade the mac printer, so we'll
probably be getting a DeskWriter soon. It looks like DVI72M should be
able to work with that setup, cause it has radio buttons for 300 dpi.
But will it print any faster than the imagewriter, or does the speed
problem have to do with the Mac Plus?

What are my other options? Could the Deskwriter be hooked up through
an A-B switch to the Apollo and driven with a Laserjet driver?

Could I hook up my Imagewriter to the Apollo? Are lpr drivers/dvi
filters available for this? (Without paying money, that is :-)
