[comp.text.tex] Help for a novice metafont user

Could someone please advise a novice metafont user. I obtained
the emTEX version of metfont from ymir.claremont.edu for the
ibm pc. I have the files in place and wanted to test the system
by running a file through. I tried the file manfnt.mf. The
command i issued was mf &plain manfnt. Everything seemd to work well
with the characters appearing on the screen. The gf file was generated
under the name manfnt.260. However no manfnt.tfm file eventuated.
Could someone tell me what I have done incorrectly.
