Hi, I have some questions about xtex. 0. Is necessary the tex82 programm (30 Mb source), for work with xtex. 1. I have the TeXbook from Donald Knuth and the xtex programm but not tex or tex82. Anyway, I want to see and edit .tex files. How I can do?. 2. I write the story.tex from TeXbook from start, but if I run xtex story.tex or xtex and after try to open the file. xtex answer me: cannot find postamble Are you sure this is a DVI file? [fopen] Unable to open ``story.tex'' If I try to open essential.dvi files another kinds of warning with a final [fopen] Unable to open ``essential.dvi'' If someone work on xtex, please answer me. Thanks!. G. Orlando. PS. I know where I take TeX.

xtex is used to view .dvi files that are produced by running TeX. Therefore, you need to run tex story.tex first, then xtex ./story.dvi to view the resulting dvi file. Best regards and good luck. Jim Bigelow Hewlett Packard Ft. Collins, CO. USA
