We are using LaTeX article style and have been unable to figure out how to eliminate the numbers. The footnotes are to mark trademarked items and our style guide requires a footnote style of marking the first usage of the trademarked name. One other consideration is that there may be more than one Tradename on a page but we only want one footnote for item: Sample sample sampe NAME1* sample sample sample NAME2* sample sample where the * is raised as in a superscript sample sample sample sample sample *MARK OF COMPANYNAME (the footnote) We don't mind doing this manually as this only happens every few months (we are heavy TeX users), thou it would be nice if it was automatic so that changes are taken care of automatically. Currently we just add the * to the footnote text and whiteout the number. If nobody has such an item then maybe some clues on how to approch the problem. It would be nice to have it work as a generic type footnote where you could have *, **, daggers etc. as the mark in the text, and end up with only one footer for each mark that appears on the page. I would probably look to set a flag true when a particular mark occurs and at the end of page add the proper footer. Then clear the flag at the start of a new page. I've never looked that deep into TeX or LaTeX so don't know if this would work or not. rick@seisvx.SINet.slb.com
