[comp.text.tex] Help getting lj file to HP Deskjet under SCO Unix.

steveo@world.std.com (Steven W Orr) (02/24/91)

I have just received TeX for my SCO ODT system. I need a little help
getting output from the printer.
I'll specify my configuartion and let (s)he knows decide what is
and is not relevent.
    Particulars:
I am running SCO ODT (i.e. SV3.2.0) with an HP Deskjet 500. The
Deskjet 500 reputedly speaks fluent HPCXL. When TeX starts I get the
following revision information:

This is TeX, C Version 3.0

I created a small test file as per experiment two from DEK's The
TeXbook. I compiled it into a dvi file, and then converted it to a
.lj file using hp2lj. When I send it to the printer I used the
following command:

lp -o g <file>.lj

It comes out with a few different problems. The letters are very
close and there are a lot of instances of overlap. The example also
has an umlaut in it which may correspond to where the checkerboard
pattern came out. I also tried using cp and cat commands redirected
to /dev/lp1 but the results were the same or worse. In addition, I
tried the exact same lj file on a friends ISC Unix system with an HP
LaserJet. His output comes out fine, indicating that there is no
problem with the lj file.
Can anyone tell me what I have to do to properly make this work?
Please email me. Many thanks in advance.
