I'm trying to include a program listing in an appendix of my dissertation and
the verbatim environment insists on putting a page break after my initial text
instead of starting on the next line. I've tried Rainer Sch\"opf's new
verbatim but same result. Also, the initial text is at the bottom of the page
with a huge gap between the Appendix header. Here is my input (\singlespace
and \spaceandhalf are defined in my .sty file but I've tried commenting them
and \footnotesize out but to no avail):
\chapter{Program listing}
Some initial text, only a few lines.
<this line intentionally left blank>
\footnotesize \singlespace
\begin{verbatim}
program listing goes here.
\end{verbatim}
\normalsize \spaceandhalf
This is probably something stupid on my part but I can't figure it. Please
