I'm using the Metafont provided with Emtex as distributed on the DECUS TEX tape. My machine is a Toshiba T1100+ laptop running Dos 3.1 with 640K memory. When I try to follow the first experiment in the Metafont book I get nothing displayed on my screen... I've tried invoking Metafont with MF/gc but that doesn't seem to do anything useful. All other Metafont functions appear to work well. It's only "showit" that doesn't do anything useful. Now, Emtex is widely distributed and appears to be well respected. Thus, I'm assuming the problem here is "pilot error."
