This is probably a stupid question, but I can't find an answer myself that quickly. We've just set up TeX3.1 over here with LaTeX's font selection scheme by Sch\"opf and Mittelbach (oldlfonts being the default style). Also, we run Rokicki's latest dvips version. Anyway, if I try to typeset the following (meaningless) formula $B_{\tt a}$ TeX does not complain. First question: should it? If not, at what size is it supposed to be setting the `a'? (My PC version back home sets it at 10 points) Anyway, running dvips on the resulting dvi file results in a call to MF with mag:=0+263/300. (For the sake of the example I used a 300dpi mode.) This means it is creating cmtt8.263pk for my 300dpi printer. Is this OK? I believe our previous installation (TeX2.99 or thereabouts, ArborText dvips) would set it at 300dpi. Perhaps some of you will state that the formula is bad TeX, but that's not the issue here. In an environment with 40+ users of Rokicki's dvips you want to be sure no needless additional pk files are being generated.
