i am sorry if these are dumb questions, but they are not covered in my book about tex. (its not the texbook). 1. how do i underline something in english? i dont want math underline, which puts the underline under the gs and ys and other letters that stick under the baseline. 2. how do i tell tex to space sentences right when the period is in quotes. for example, how would i do thefollowing sentence: I said ``hello.'' I did. so that there is an inter-sentence space between the '' and the I? gwoho liu.

I posted something a week ago that lets you generate any CM font with underlining that doesn't drift up and down to fit the depth of the current hbox. If you can't find it, send me mail and I'll send you a copy. ++Brandon -- Me: Brandon S.
