I heard about an alternative to Latex called LamsTeX (or so...) I am interested in learning more about its pros and contras from informed or less informed readers. Pointers to sources of info welcome as well. Thanks. Philippe

It enables one to add Latex and other features to files that use AMS-TeX. For example, cross-referencing, automatic numbering, preparing an index as well as tables of content. It developes, macros to place figures at many places, and following specific rules if there is not enough space available. It has a literal mode (verbatim) capability and macros for preparing tables of various shapes. It can also do commutative diagrams, for which special fonts were created. One of its main advantages is that is compatible with plain.tex. Another advantage is that it enables even a layman great flexibility in creating various styles. From my point of view, it has the advantage of being oriented to needs of a mathematician. For more details you can contact: Dr. Michael Spivak TeXplorators 3701 W. Alabama, Suite 450-273 P.O.
