[comp.text.tex] PostScript Viewer

cchen@unixg.ubc.ca (Chia-tung Chen) (03/28/91)

I have been using psfig and dvips to prepare my latex document in
the postscript format. Since postscript printing is expensive, I
like to make sure my document is all right before I print it. I can
use dvi previewers; however, I like to see how the postscript
pictures that I included in the document look. Therefore, I cannot
use dvi previews.

Well, does anyone know any good postscript previewer around? There is
some really simple postscript previewer available on our system at
electrical department but it cannot handle the output from dvips and
a lot of other postscript formats.

Could somone mail me the address of ftp server where I can get a
good postscript previewer which can handle dvips or dvi2ps output?
My mailing address is cchen@unixg.ubc.ca.

Thank you in advance!!!

The latest version of GhostScript displays `dvips' output nicely.
Output from `dvi2ps' displays white pages only. One of the sites that
have the latest version of this stuff is

Host siam.unibe.ch (130.92.66.11)

    Location: /GNU/GhostScript
      rw-r--r-- 1245001 Feb 4 08:02 ghostscript-2.1fonts.tar.Z
      rw-r--r-- 29679 Feb 4 08:02 ghostscript-2.1paintjet.tar.Z
      rw-r--r-- 606899 Feb 4 08:02 ghostscript-2.1.1.tar.Z

If you only want to display files that use the Computer Modern fonts,
you don't need the P*stScr*pt fonts in the large file. Nearly
everything else looks *MUCH* better if you have them, though.

Have fun,

Perhaps read newsgroup gnu.ghostscript.* for the FTP location of that
one, which I think is prep.ai.mit.edu.
