I am trying to do some subscripting, only I do not want the char height of the subscript to be included in the list of boxes for the line (the char width of the subscript is zero). For example, assume I am using some font, where the width of the char Y is zero. Then X\lower0.5em\hbox{Y} increases the line width by 50%. What should I do to force the height of the "\lower0.5em\hbox{Y}" to be taken as zero, so that it does not influence the line height ? Any help will be appreciated. As to why I need this, I have developed a font in PostScript which I need to use in TeX. The PostScript font only contains "building blocks", and I need to compose font characters to get the complete language character. I am not aware of any way to set the char height of a particular char to zero. (Of course, it is possible to set the width to zero.) For example, in the case shown above, it would be sufficient if I could set the height of the char Y to zero. Thanks, for any help. -- --------------------------- Avinash Chopde home : 508 470 1190 office : 617 224 5582 (Reply broken, use this address): contex!avinash@uunet.uu.net
