[comp.text.tex] MetaFont and X11

ehrlich@cs.psu.edu (Dan Ehrlich) (04/05/91)

Hello all,

It seems that when I built MetaFont I included X11 window support. The
dvips program will automagically run MetaFont when it discovers that
a specific magnification of a font is missing. This is wonderful, except
that I do not want or need to see MetaFont building each character. Is
there a way to tell MetaFont to not use X11? Would just unsetting the
DISPLAY environment variable do the trick?

Thanks.

Edit MakeTeXPK to invoke mf in \batchmode.
