[comp.text.tex] Problem scaling cmcsc10 font using LaTeX & dvi2ps

keyes@sierra.ACA.MCC.COM (Debbie Keyes) (04/11/91)

Greetings -

I am having a problem with the cmcsc10 font using LaTeX (version 2.09) and
dvi2ps (version 3.1). The warning from dvi2ps is:

Substituted font cmcsc10 at mag 300 for cmcsc10 at mag 7.
	Scaled 1.200000.
Substituted font cmcsc10 at mag 300 for cmcsc10 at mag 7.
	Scaled 1.726667.

(the last mag value varies widely although the document doesn't change)

Most of the text prints correctly, but some characters in the caps & small caps
font (cmcsc10) are either missing entirely or not scaled properly, but not
consistently.

For example: in printing the document "local.tex" that came with my TeX3.0
distribution, the LaTeX logo prints without the "a" for the first half of
the document, but with the "a" for the second half. On the title page,
the "a" is not scaled properly and, in the entire document, the "i" in bibtex
and slitex is not scaled properly.

However, if I use the -r option to dvi2ps to reverse the pages, the "i" is
scaled properly for bibtex and slitex. Also, the "a" always appears in the
LaTeX logo, but is not scaled properly in titles and headings.

I have printed these examples on a LaserWriter and on two Imagens (running
different versions of UltraScript) and get the same results thus I doubt it
is the printer. I have also checked my cmcsc10.tfm file (compares with
several recently FTP'd).

I am now completely baffled and would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
