[comp.text.tex] AMSLaTeX: pool size exceeded?!!!!

richmace@images.cs.und.ac.za (Richard Mace) (04/24/91)

I have installed AMSLaTeX with our current version of PCTeX (v3.0)
but have trouble TeXing even the smallest programs. The error

!TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [pool size=8135]

almost always crops up. Looking at the log file, one sees that it is the
number of string characters that cause the error (p44 of the AMSLaTeX
Users Guide shows that one needs 8444 string characters to use the
`amsart' style file). My question is: do we need to increase the pool
size (it certainly seems so), and if so, how does one go about this?

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. [I have tagged the
.log and .tex files to the end of this article for your perusal]

Rich,

now this is painfully easy!

You ftp to ucthpx.uct.ac.za as ftp password your id and cd to the
subdirectory emtex from which you pull the six emtex.cpio files stored
there. (I got them from Jon Radel and Graham Wheeler uploaded them for
this purpose)

Then you uncpio the zip files and dowload them onto your PC.

Then you throw away pc-tex and after generating the fonts you need, try
again to install amslatex. if it still does not work you generate a
format for big-latex and use this.

Then you tell me where to ftp the amslatex stuff from :-)-O

regards, el
