I have been enjoying my first installation of TeX from the Labrea Archive, and all seems fine except that TeX does not seem to recognize the default input directory /usr/local/lib/tex/inputs. Typing \input plain results in the complaint: ! I can't find file `plain.tex'. l.1 \input plain.tex Please type another input file name: I have checked that site.h points to the correct directory, the directory exists (a soft link /usr2/local/lib/tex/inputs). Is this correct behavior? I compared to the behavior on the machines at the university of chicago, and discovered that the old installation (TeX 2.?) does recognize a default input directory, but TeX 3.0 does not. Any advice/comments?
