I recently received a file that looked like a LaTeX source file (sort of), but the extension was .TEXINFO, and the first few lines looked like this: \input texinfo.tex @c -*- texinfo -*- @c %**start of header @setfilename features.info @settitle Bash Features @c %**end of header @setchapternewpage odd @synindex fn cp @ifinfo When I tried to run it through TeX or LaTeX it complained rightfully that I had no TEXINFO.TEX file, and went crazy. My question is "what is TEXINFO?", and "What can I do to process this file?". texinfo is a format used to document GNU programs produced by the free Software Foundation, such as Emacs and BASH. It can be converted into Info format (used in Emacs's Info browsing system) or TeXed using texinfo.tex, a copy of which should be included with any GNU package that has documentation in texinfo format. ---- Damian Cugley -------------------------------- pdc@prg.ox.ac.uk --- Computing Laboratory, 11 Keble Rd, Oxford OX1 3QD Great Britain ------------------------------------------------------------------------ malvern-request@prg.ox.ac.uk "share and enjoy"
