[comp.text.tex] HELP with cmex/lcircle on postscript/TeX 3.0

shimeall@grus.cs.nps.navy.mil (timothy shimeall) (05/15/91)

We've been trying to install TeX 3.0 on our systems (upgrading from
2.93). We've run into problems with at least two of the fonts as
distributed from labrea.stanford.edu:
  latex circles (lcircle) appear conch-shaped;
  large braces (cmex) have slight but noticable stair-stepping.
    (both square and curly)
Both of these effects occur under LaTeX -- I haven't tried to
reproduce them with plain TeX. All other text (thus far) is fine.

We've explored a bit, and found that our (as distributed) metafont
uses a localfont set for the imagen 8/300. We are running with
a (cheaper) Cannon-based 300dpi printer, under Postscript.  We've
not been able to locate a mode_def for a postscript printer in the
distributed sources.

a) Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
b) Does anyone have any ideas as to how to solve it?

Thanks in advance for any help given, but please email it directly
to me rather than cluttering the list...
