A couple of weeks ago, I posted the following in net.jokes (as a response to
a discussion of humorous computer-generated form letters):

In the space of three working days, Data General sent me five mailgrams
requesting that I come in for an interview *and* three ding letters - all
signed by the same person! I called this jerk-off about a dozen times
trying to find out which to believe, and he never returned a single one
of my calls... so I sent all eight letters (plus a copy of my telephone
bill) straight to Edson deCastro! (He never answered me either!)

To give credit where credit is due... somebody at DG read it and actually
called me for further details! Unfortunately, he wasn't in personnel - of
course, "Conscientious personnel department" is an inherent contradiction
like "military justice" or "truth in advertising". Even more unfortunately,
the above incident occurred in 1978 and I've long since forgotten the name
of the guilty party (which by now has probably become a moot point). But
someone (I didn't catch his name) at DG was at least concerned enough to
investigate, which I find commendable.

I also got netmail referring to DG's personnel dept. as "The Hole of a New
Machine", though, so apparantly my experience was not unique!
