[comp.text.tex] Workable TeX on the PC?

sun@robios.eng.yale.edu (Kang Sun) (05/10/91)

Greetings,

I am trying to get DOSTeX to work on a PC386 and had had
enough trouble.

The DOSTeX seemed to work, but only with very small file before
it ran out of memory.

Then, the DVIEPS ran out of memory as well even with the small
file.

Finally, I got a DVIPRN from a German site. But it requires
some "four digit" image fonts such as 1456.pk, which I couldn't find.

So, does anyone have or know a integrated TeX/DVI-driver
system that really work well on PC?

	Thank you very much!

I use EmTeX, which is public domain and free on the internet. It has a
previewer and a collection of printer drivers. I have used this on a
notepad computer on trips as well as bigger PC's. It has TeX, MetaFont,
and a collection of TeXtape utilities. I got my copy from the machine
msdos.archive.umich.edu; look in the msdos/TeX directory for EmTeX,
dvips547.zip (if you have a PostScript printer), and fonts subdirectories
(in particular).
