[comp.text.tex] Printing with OzTeX...

garrett@brahms.udel.edu (Joel Garrett) (06/21/91)

I have set up OzTeX v1.3 and done some simple tests of the program (such as
typesetting and preview/printing the User's Guide that came with it. Aside
from changing all of the default paper size info from A4 to 8.5x11 inches, I
have had no problems, except for one potentially big annoying problem.

When I try to print out the User's Guide (ozuser.dvi), I have to select the
"include LaserPrep" option on the pre-print dialog, as there is an included
postscript figure (a mac screen dump) on page 4 of the document.

When I printed this document out, the whole 28 page document was printed
successfully, with the postscript figure in place, but when the last page was
printed and the printer status dialog in OzTeX went away, I noticed that the
light was still blinking on the LaserWriter. I tried printing another document
and got a message from the laserwriter to the effect that it was still processing
my old print job.

I have been using the program on a Mac IIci with 8MB RAM, 80MB HD80SC, System
6.0.5, LaserWriter v6.0.1 (which includes laserprep v7.0)

If I do not include the laserprep file, the document prints ok and the printer
returns to normal afterwards, but the postscript figure isn't printed on the
same page as the text that it is supposed to be included with.

I know that the laserprep that gets included is actually a patched on, located
in the ps-files folder, named something like laserprep70.ps, and I tried
following the instructions in that file's header to generate a new patched
laserprep file, but that one suffered the same problem as the one that came
with OzTeX.

I've tried doing this with background printing turned off and on and it doesn't
seem to make a difference, the same thing happens regardless of whether the
option is turned on or not.

Any suggestions?
