[rec.arts.cinema] Moderator's apology

thakur@zerkalo.harvard.edu (Manavendra K. Thakur) (05/09/91)

I just realized that Ian Jarvie's article about classic black and
white musicals was sent out to the net with my personal .signature
appended at the end of it.

This constitutes, of course, a terrible mistake, and I have already
apologized to Ian via email. His article did not have a .signature
when I received it, and therefore his article should not have had any
.signature information when it left my site.

(For those wondering, inews appended my personal .signature
automatically when I posted the article to the newsgroup. Once I
realized my mistake, I immediately deleted my .signature from the
article file referenced in our nntp batch queue, but I was too late.
By the time I got to it, nntp had already forwarded Ian's article to
our newsfeed.)

This is the first time such a thing has happened while I've been
moderating rec.arts.cinema, and I am of course deeply embarrassed
about it. I would like to publicly apologize to Ian for this
incident.

Please rest assured that I have taken steps to prevent this problem
from recurring, and that I certainly did not intend to claim undue
credit by affixing my name to another person's work.
