CDC (also known as Imprimis -- and owned (partially?) by Seagate)
is supposed to have excellent quality drives, although at a price ($$$).
I've been looking at the prices for CDC/Imprimis drives, and they do not
seem that much more expensive than other drives (with 300 MB drives,
perhaps $100-$200 more than other drives).

I am currently looking for a 300MB half-height SCSI drive, and
people have recommended CDC/Imprimis and Micropolis drives as being very
good drives. As I've also heard that Micropolis is "close to
receivership", I'm currently leaning towards a CDC/Imprimis drive.

The latest issue of Computer Shopper has a fairly comprehensive
table listing ESDI, MFM/IDE, and SCSI drives.

Arrrrrgh!

CDC used to be a computer company -- the full name is "Control Data
Corporation" -- and they used to make some mighty fine disk drives.
Now I think they've gone the way of most American industrial firms,
they own things and sell financial services and stuff, but don't
seem to make anything, best I can tell.

As part of the process of stopping being a computer company they
sold their disk drive division. They gave it a name just before
they put it on the market -- they called it "Imprimis". Seagate
bought Imprimis. Hope that helps.
