Some time ago, I was given a tape controller and drive for free. They work,
and with a minimal set of commands from the SCSI specification, I've been
able to read and write tapes. But I have a feeling there may be things about
that controller that I haven't found out yet. Here is the information I have:
Board says: "ASSY MW0210402"
Sticker on one of the big chips says: "TOP ASSY: MT0210201-00F"
Sticker on another big chip says: "Warr. Exp. 09/86" (indicates vintage)
There are two 40-pin chips (with the stickers), an NCR5385 SCSI chip, an EPROM,
and a big square PLCC chip which says this on it:
L1A0691
2400001
RAA 8450
There is a 50-pin interface connector for the SCSI, another for the tape,
and two smaller connectors - one 10 pin and one 15 pin. There are two LEDs
(which never seem to light) and eight DIP switches.
Does anyone know what I have here? Can this controller do more than record
40 megabytes of data on DC300XL tapes at 30 ips (that's what it does now).
Should I bother calling up Emulex, and try to get a manual for it? And if
so, what is Emulex's address/phone number?
Once again, any information at all would be appreciated.
