I do not normally read this group so I do not know if this has come up before. Has anyone ever tried to connect an Exabyte tape drive to a Sony NEWS workstation? We have an 1850 and want a high capacity tape drive. We already have an Exabyte on another system so compatibility would be useful. I have been in contact with Sony Australia and a number of people who sell Exabytes, but have not been able to get a definite yes or no answer (some had heard the answer was yes, but this could have been salesman talk). I am running Sony OS 3.3a. The manual entry for the st driver says it can handle fixed length and variable length block devices and listed the following drive numbers: 5099EN24 (QIC-24 and QIC-11), 5125 (QIC-120 and QIC-24), 2150S (QIC120 and QIC-24). The manual entry says it is possible to connect other SCSI tape drives than these. Has anyone else tried an Exabyte on a Sony NEWS? Anyone got any suggestions at all? The alternative is to get a Sony DAT unit (expected around Sept I think) but I would prefer the compatibility with the our existing tape drive. If you could mail me any advice it would be greatly appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Alan Kent, ACSNET: ajk@goanna.cs.rmit.OZ Key Center for Knowl.
