Last night during a format operation on a Maxtor 8760S, power cycled. Before the format, the drive was fine. After the partial format, I get write protect messages on a new format attempt. The drive was being successfully used and then reformatted on an Apple IIGS with a Apple DMA High- Speed SCSI board. The utilities I have in this environment are next to none. Are the Sun Sparc utilities more robust. Will I have to contact the manufacturer to replace the drive geometry, defect list, or some other corrupt data? I do not read this group, so please Email. Thanx in advance... -- Max Heffler internet: max@lgc.com Landmark Graphics Corp. uucp: ..!uunet!lgc!max 333 Cypress Run, Suite 100 phone: (713) 579-4751 Houston, Texas 77094

On a related note, I had a power outage while formatting a CDC
Wren IV. The drive operates, but has been unreliable ever since.
What damage can we expect from an interrupted format? How can it
be recovered?
