[comp.periphs.scsi] WD7000 fasst2 controller and 150 meg tapedrive

ronb@adds.newyork.NCR.COM (Ron Beausoleil) (09/05/90)

Hello all,

I presently own a nice 386 system and I am using a Western Digital wd7000
fasst 2 controller. I recieved (actually purchased) the upgrade v3.36 from
columbia data products. Now that I have a decent set of firmware and software.
I find that my present Archive 60 meg qic-02 tape drive is totally lacking.

Here's the question!:

Of all the present people out there (meaning you) who use the wd7000
fasst 2 controller. How many are also using the Archive 150meg tape (codename
viper)? This tapedrive is sold under other names from distributors.

What I need to know is:

1) What software do I need to purchase to get the thing going.
I found hints that it's called SYSTOS.

2) Is the drive sold from distributor/retailer in a stand-alone config.
RE: minus the SCSI-host controller (got that already).
PS. This has to be an external event! Cable and all.

3) Can the software be purchased, without the drive. I possibly can purchase
one from my work. They do get these drive in volume discounts.

4) Of those who kindly repsond. Have you had any trouble with your setup??

A side note to all using the WD7000 fasst2 controller. If you are using a
release of software before v3.36, I would suggest you get the upgrade.
The upgrade supplied ($50.00+shipping), includes 2 new software proms
a new manual, and software diskettes. The version of your 33C93 hocky-puck
ASIC is needed when ordering. It's either 33C93 or 33C93A. It's important
to know!! Different upgrade kits are send depending on your version!
What they ask for is the software rom number at location U60. So have that
number also handy.
The number for Columbia Data Products is (407)-869-6700. Ask for the Sale
department. They take visa/mastercharge, so it's pretty simple.
An advantage to going to v3.36 is support for windows 3.0 and support of
QEMM 5.0 and 386-to-MAX. There are many other reasons for going to 3.36, to
numerous to list.

For all those who respond: Thank-you in advance. Even if I don't get the
chance to email back.
