[comp.periphs.scsi] Adaptec ACB-4000 or ACB-4000A: What's the Diff.

gja@vta.atl.ga.us (Greg Ansley) (10/13/90)

I just ordered a Adaptec ACB-4000 disk controler to run
a ST-506 Maxtor for a Sun 3/60, but I keep hearing about
a ACB-4000A. The question is: Do I need the *A* version for
what I am doing and secondly what EXACTLY is the difference
between the two.

Originally, Adaptec had two different 4000 type cards, the ACB-4000
was for soft sectored disks and the ACB-4010 was for hard sectored disks.
When they went to the ACB-4000A, they simply implemented both options on
the same card. they also did some firmware changes that allowed for a little
more compatibility with the full SCSI Common Command Set.
