[comp.periphs.scsi] noise suppression for SCSI disks

alfred@unisql.UUCP (Alfred Correira) (11/20/90)

(This might not be an optimal group choice, but here goes anyway ... ;-)

We have a local environment where it is necessary for diskful servers to
double as user workstations as well. Most of the disks are Fujitsu 669M
and 1.2G SCSI disks (on Sun 4/65s) and they make a rather distracting and
annoying clickety-clackety during reading/writing.

we've considered various ideas for isolating these disks from the workstation
user, including (perhaps) getting impact printer sound hoods for pairs of
them, but these things (the hoods) are pretty expensive, largely because
they are over-engineered for our need. I've tried all our suppliers/vendors,
and they know of no products that would simply provide appropriate noise
insulation for these disks at a pretty cheap price. Do any of you out
there have suggestions/pointers for s.t. along this line?
