[comp.periphs.scsi] Exabyte 8mm SCSI tape drivers

DonP@blkhole.UUCP (Donald Phillips) (12/29/90)

Does anybody have available the source code listing for an Exabyte 8mm tape
drive for any computer system that they'd be willing to share? I am trying to
connect one to an Amiga and have only got the documentation on the SCSI
commands that the drive will support. The docs provide no examples of the
sequence of commands necessary to make the drive do something useful. I have
been successful at getting it to return the device information.

Calls to Exabyte have produced the answer of "we only provide hardware, the
software to drive it is your problem". The distributor's reply was, "it works
just fine using the standard Sun SCSI driver." The drive is functioning
without difficulty on my Mac IIci.

Alternatively, does anybody have the source code for any 8mm tape drive that
they'd be willing to share?

Thanks in advance,

I don't know much about the Exabytes, but either MWtape or TABU works
fine with my systems and the Archive 2150S drive. How does Exabyte handle
block sizes? If it's the same as most CCS tape drives, just more of them
on a tape :-), you shouldn't have any trouble. Depends on your controller
card software too, though.

If you have trouble finding tape drive software in the PD for your
Amiga, I have several of them on my BBS at (503) 640-9337. Look for MWtape.lzh,
BTNtape.lzh and Tabu.lzh. MW and BTN are handlers, Tabu is a backup program.

:Thanks in advance,
