Previously, I asked about the performance of Fujitsu hard disks. Here are some comments I've received. I give thanks for your comments. _______________________________________________________________________ We've been using the model you are talking about (M2263SA) in a NeXT cube since June 1990 24 hours a day continuously. We've never had any problems with it, and I am very pleased with it. So much so, I have just ordered one (today) for my own NeXT cube at home. Izumi Ohzawa _______________________________________________________________________ We use them a great deal and have had no significant problems. The only problem I can remember was a drive firmware problem that would cause the drive to disconnect unceremoniously and unexpectedly. This caused problems for our adaptor and driver software. Fujitsu has since delivered new versions of the firmware that fixes this problem. So if you make sure you have the latest and greatest firmware, you should have no problems. Indeed, getting the lastest and greatest revisions of peripherals is always a problem, regardless of vendor. In general, I am very happy with the drives, and recommend them highly. We have found to be both fast and reliable. I would be interested in how much the drive is going to cost you. -- Gary Barton To answer your question, we are buying the SCSI subsystem version. The drive + desktop enclosure + SCSI cables to our VAXstation 3100 is costing just under $2500. One could purchase a subsystem for a little less, if one chooses a different kind of desktop enclosure. However, I chose the StoreEdge enclosure, because Fujitsu, America offers on-site warranty repair work for the first year when the Fujitsu drive is purchased with the StorEdge enclosure. -- David White, 1/25/91 _______________________________________________________________________ They're good. A little noisier on seek than some others, but reliable. The big disks (e.g. 660 and 1.2 formatted) have a factory 5 year, 48 hour replacement type warranty. --Lauren-- _______________________________________________________________________ They seem to be pretty reliable from what I've heard. A big vendor of them is R Squared. They have an office in Irvine (714) 837-0960. If you're interested in Micropolis or HP, my company sells those :-)!
