[comp.periphs.scsi] Connecting a ST296N to a Mac, cable problems

thoger@solan.unit.no (Terje Th|gersen) (01/26/91)

Hi!

I've sold my Seagate ST296N SCSI drive to a guy that wanted to use it on a Mac.
(I don't know the model, but it was one of the small ones, with a DB25 SCSI
plug)

He's having some problems in getting this to work, and I hope you might be
able to help him out..

He's got a Mac DB25 to DB50 converting cable, and he's connected this to a
flat cable with a DB50 plug on one end and a standard 50 pin Berg contact on
the other. The connection DB50 - Berg50 is pin 1-1, 2-2 etc.

I presume he's jumpered the drive for the right drive id.

He's got some Mac software that's specifically meant for initializing a non-mac
drive for use with Macs. This software starts off by trying to read the drive
ID, but it is unable to complete this, complaining that it cannot find any
drives. I don't know the name of the software.

The same disk works like a charm in a PC, running off a ST02 controller.

So.. Anybody got some magic tricks?

Thank you..

  -Terje

This may be a parity problem.

Apple isn't able to use parity, and failed if it is enabled
by the drive.
