how 'bout a list of good books on scsi (intro level first).
where would one go to get the actual protocol.

I am not sure where you could go out and buy them but the books that
came with the NCR SCSI seminar were worth the price of the seminar.
(the seminar itself and even the *food* was worth the price...)


This seems to be a very good intro book:

This one is an excellent reference:

And then there are the ANSI documents themselves.  Those are good if
you have trouble sleeping or have a wobbly desk.
