[comp.periphs.scsi] NEC D5862 boot problem

schoellhorn@munich.enet.dec.com (Klaus Schoellhorn) (01/31/91)

Hello,
i've a problem with my new SCSI Disk.
DISK: NEC D5862 329 MB formatted 1224 cyl. 8 disks 15 data heads
Controller: DTC 3280A from Data Technology 16-bit Combicontroller
When booting from disk :

the usual message : "Non system disk .....
		     Press any key......
appears.

The disk is not bootable with the following DOS versions
3.2 ,3.3, 4.01

I've tried the following commands :
format c: /s
sys c:
make a disk bootable from disktool (NU 5)

I did the low level format with GSDIAG from DTC, shipped on driver
diskette.
FDISK recognizes the disk correctly and if using DOS 4.01 i can use
the whole disk as one logical drive.
The disk is only booting with the operating system from COMPAQ version 3.31.
The system is a 25 MHZ 386 C&T Chipset, AMI Bios, and in the CMOS RAM no
disk is installed.
When booting from floppy, the disk is always recognized from any operating
system but not bootable.
Thanks, Klaus Schoellhorn
Does anyone have the adress of Data Technology ?
