[comp.periphs.scsi] Fujitsu Hard Disks - followup

dwhite@uclapp.physics.ucla.edu (02/01/91)

Since requesting information on Fujitsu hard disks, I have received
many responses. In addition to the responses I have previously posted,
here are more responses:

David,
We use a number of the Fujitsu 680MB (formatted) SCSI drives here
with no problems so far. I have one on my MicroVAX and it gets heavy use.
The drive makes some noise when the heads move so it's not for a quiet
office, but the drive seems to be rugged otherwise (and nice and fast).

I'm happy with the ones I've put in so far, but there's still less
than a year of combined experience to go on. They are a bit noisier than
most others, very sharp "rattle" when doing random seeks.

David,

I don't have experience with their SCSI drives, but based on
7 years experience with their SMD and SMD/E drives, I can thoroughly
recommend them. They are beautifly engineered pieces of equipment
that I personnaly have never ever had a problem with.

I used 4 of their 168MB SMD drives for 6 years, still running, 24
hours a day 7 days a week. The 337MB SMD/Es have run for 2 years
non stop (8 of them) and the 1GB Swallow SMD/E drives (4 of them)
have also run for 2 years ok.

I cannot comment on their post sales engineering because non of
ours ever broke. Their pre-sales and technical engineering has
	always been first class.

Someday, all disks drives will be made this way.....
