[comp.periphs.scsi] Using DAT to free hard disk space

kk881595@longs.LANCE.ColoState.EDU (kevin knappmiller) (02/01/91)

We have a 600MByte hard drive that is overfull mostly with
rarely used files. We also have a WANGDAT DAT.

I would appreciate any thoughts on using the DAT as a resting
place for many of the disk files, with only a pointer
residing on the disk and the file being restored only if
a user attempts to access it. If this could be done in
a method transparent to the user other than a relatively
short wait while the file is being restored it would be
great.

Would this be possible or is the DAT too slow to be used
in this manner?
