HELP! I'm getting ready to upgrade my system with a new disk drive. At the same time, I'd like to add a tape backup unit. Several friends locally have said that SCSI is _the way to go_ (of course, they all run either UNIX or an Amiga). Because of what I do, I _must_ support both UNIX and DOS on this machine. According to local people, UNIX would be no problem with a SCSI disk and a SCSI tape both plugged into the same host adaptor. No one is quite so sure about what happens under DOS, though. Will DOS support a SCSI Host adaptor (probably Adaptec as I'm very happy with my Adaptec RLL controller, but I'd like information on any controller), a 660 Meg SCSI disk and a tape backup unit (probably an Archive) which is also SCSI all hooked together? Is special hardware/software necessary? Must I get special dispensation? If so, from whom? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -larry

larry, I have the Future Domain TMC 885 SCSI host adaptor. This card works very well. I had no conflicts, even with an XT hard drive controller card plugged in. My only complaint is that it takes a few seconds longer to boot. I personally own a Conner 100Mb SCSI hard drive and a teac tape backup. While the card recognizes both of these, the hard drive requires no software to run, but the tape backup does. In fact, I got my tape drive from a friend for free without any software. No one on these news groups seem to have any software for it, or they are not willing to help me. Yet, I know that it works. Nevertheless, a SCSI adaptor with a hard drive and a tape drive should be no problem. good luck and tell us all how it works out Alan
