[comp.periphs.scsi] Do not buy from Dennis Fried / Hi-Tech Asset Recovery Inc

iverson@ivy.uucp (Tim Iverson) (02/23/91)

I bought a new (but 6 months old) Gigatrend Exabyte 8mm scsi tape from him
only to find when it arrived that it wasn't 8mm or Exabyte, it was a 2 year
old converted JVC audio DAT made by Gigatrend. This explains an $800 price
for what's usually $4000 to $8000.

He refuses to admit that he misrepresented the product and refuses to
accept it's return. Unless I can find someone that wants 4mm (I need 8),
it looks like I'll be suing him for fraud.

If you do deal with him, make sure you get exact terms and descriptions
of what you're ordering in writing *before* you buy. Even then, though,
you'll be SOL if you didn't get what you ordered - he's rather pugnacious.
