I am thinking about dropping a SCSI drive into my PC, and I have a question about controllers. The most obvious choice is the Adaptec 1542B, and it seems like everyone in this group is using it. The various flavors of UNIX I've looked at all support it. I was wondering about fancier controllers, like the PSI hyperStore. In the Byte review (January 1991), the PSI did very well for DOS and slightly better than ESDI track buffering cards for UNIX. So ... what do you recommend as a controller? Just go with the Adaptec, or spend extra for something like the PSI? Anyone using the PSI for UNIX who has any comments one way or the other? Thanks in advance ... and I hope these aren't FAQs. I've been reading the group for a while, off and on, and haven't seen much discussion of alternate controllers. - Oliver P.S. The price listed in Byte for the SCSI PSI with 4 megs seems awfully high ($1700). I called PSI to get the name of the local dealer, who quoted me a much lower price (more like 1200).
