Hi. I pulled the following off of GEnie the other day. I'll let it speak for itself: Category 4, Topic 40 Message 1 Sat Feb 23, 1991 D.GRIZZLE at 01:02 CST WARNING: Owners of Teac 150 MB Backup units should be aware of a ROM Bug which allows these drives to incorrectly overwrite data by mispositioning the tape during backups. This problem was identified in February 1991 by Dantz Development, publishers of Retrospect. Teac Japan has acknowledged this bug within the past week. This condition is results in a Retrospect error message 106 (data overwrite attempt) - and is a "fatal error" - complete data loss. Teac believes that the 150MB ROM Rev. E will correct this problem. Accoring to Retrospect Technical Support, the PD Utility SCSI Probe, (file #17308 in the GEnie Mac Library) will report what Teac ROM is in any given tape drive unit. Your drive vendor can contact Larry Zulch at Dantz for a copy of the Teac acknowledgement letter. Teac is supposedly committed to upgrading installed devices to ROM Rev. E. In the interim, always veryify files before deleting them from your ha hard disk to insure that they have been correctly recorded to tape! --Frank Malczewski (fdm@wlv.imsd.contel.com)
