I've heard a rumor that there's an error in the microcode of the Adaptec ACB-4000A that prevents correctly executing the "format-with-defect-list" command. Any truth to the rumor? Any work-arounds? I'd really like to get the controller to handle defects the manufacturer's certification procedure discovered, because ordinary I/O can't reliably discover them. Sometimes the ones that are missed come back, depending on temperature, humidity, phase of the moon, etc. By then, of course, there's data in those spots to be lost.
