>/* ---------- "Adaptec 1542B and NEC CDR-52 CDROM" ---------- */ >Hi, > > I have an Adaptec 1542B, and a NEC CDR-52 CDROM drive. Does anyone >know whether the optional Adaptec CDROM driver (ASW-410) will work with >the above drive? Any information would be much appreciated. The ASW-410 CDROM driver only supports audio on the Sony and Toshiba CDROM drives. If the NEC emulates the command set of either of these drives, it will work fine, as far as audio goes. In general, there is a command line switch that allows the driver to function with virtually any CDROM driver, except the audio command, which was not defined for SCSI-1 and so the manaufacturers implemented it in many different ways. A new version of the driver which supports the SCSI-2 CDROM command set is on its way out the door. So any CDROM that is SCSI-2 compatible, and not just claims to be SCSI-2 compatible, will function in all aspects. Take care though,.....some CDROMS (like Toshiba) will barf and puke if the synchronous negotiation message is sent to the device, so you must make sure sync negotiation is off on the adapter (default), if you have any problems.
