[comp.periphs.scsi] Adaptec SCSI Development System

jameslim@eniac.seas.upenn.edu (James Lim ) (03/28/91)

I tried to post this message a couple of days ago. I don't think it made it,
so here it goes again...

I'm a student working on a design project. I am designing a chip which will
allow any SCSI random access device to be used by a SCSI tape drive software
driver. I am almost done with the design, but I still need to test it.
I am not a software person, so I am not skilled enough (or have enough time)
to write my own device driver.

All I want to do is be able to issue simple commands (ie TUR, Inquiry,
write, etc.) on the SCSI bus, one at a time. This is to see if my design is
even moderately correct.

The SCSI Development System (SDS3) made by Adaptec or a SCSI BUS anlyzer
seems to be the best solution. Unfortunately, on my meager student budget
I can't afford any of these solutions.

I was wondering if anyone knows of some software or a kit which will allow
allow me to test and issue simple commands on the SCSI bus. The software
or kit will need to run under MS-DOS(any version), and/or be compatible
with an Adaptec 1542b, Future Domaine TMC-885, or SMS(OMTI) 822 SCSI host
adapter.

Any help would be appreciated. Please e-mail your responses.
